Hacking on Rd.io at Spotify - Comfort

This is part of my experience when I attended the Spotify NYC hackathon, way back in the day.

Another rule for a hackathon I like to follow is: having a cool space to hack in.

I have been in hackathons where the space is just “another lot” - where during the week, nothing happens in the space except be… empty.

Those spaces are not condusive to creating new ideas, having fun, or even staying the whole night.

If you’re not comfortable at a hackathon, I would recommend just leaving. Being comfortable at a hackathon is important because you will be trying to do work and if your mind is considering your safety, security, or comfort - then you will not have a good time, even if you “win it all”.

The Spotify hosted their hackathon at their office, which was gorgeous. The space was where employees worked from so there were full ammenities - way better than other hackathons I attended.

Once I am comfortable at a hackathon, I continuously evaluate my game plan.
