Music: The Vulnerable Male
I listen to a wide range of music. I grew up with pop, moved onto Canton-pop, then J-pop, metal, back to pop, anime, then a LOT of J-pop and currently on a trance/techno/house/deep house - let’s say electronic.
😅
One type of song I find myself attracted to or even songs that stick in my head are those that have male vocals that express their fears - the “vulnerable male” song.
I don’t know why these stick to me more and even after long periods of not listening to them, when I do listen to them again, I’m instantly transported back to the first moment when the song stuck to me.
One song that has this effect on me: Orange Mystery, the opening song from anime Kimagure Orange Road. Here’s a version with English subtitles:
Orange Mystery
The more I analyze this, the more I wonder.
- It’s a male expressing their fears
- It’s a fear about an emotion their partner may/may not reciprocate
- It’s performed by a male
Part of me wonders, does this song resonate with me because I have those feelings in me as well? Who? Why?
The part that stands out the most to me is that is a male expressing vulnerability. I found female songs express vulnerability, male songs, not so much - at least the original.
Oh wait - now that I think about it, I wonder who was the original songwriter, because the performer may not always be the same as the songwriter…
Other songs I found in this category:
Lovers - Solarstone featuring Lemon
Lost All My Tears - Neptune Project
Anthem - Filo & Peri
Do you resonate with songs like these? If so, what are they? I would love to find more.
