Hot Sauce Treatments

I am a big fan of hot sauce, really spicy hot sauces. Back before there was an interview show using hot sauces. 😅

After watching the episode with Gordon Ramsey, he impressed me with some of the treatments he tried.

Through trial (and error?) these are treatments to hot sauce I have found useful.

Before

The best thing to do before having really spicy food is have chia seeds. The main reason:

What goes in; must come out.

If food goes in spicy, it will probably come out spicy. I have found that chia seeds keeps things compact when coming out.

Chia seeds are generally good for you too.

During

The best thing to help with really spicy food during a meal is to less spicy food.

If you are adding hot sauce to a meal, only add it to the side or a portion of your meal. That way, you can use the mild portion to help balance the spicy portion.

If the food is spicy already, having alcohol is the next best option (unless the alcohol is spicy).

Capsaicin

The chemical that makes food feel spicy is capsaicin.

Alcohol absorbs capsaicin, drinking your favorite alcoholic beverage helps relieve the fire in your mouth.

Water does not absorb capsaicin, so drinking water when your mouth is on fire only feels worse.

After

Things to do After a spicy meal, the best thing to do next is to have:

Ripe Banana 🍌

Yes, a banana. The sweeter, the better. Other sweet foods work as well, like ice cream. The texture of a banana helps relieve spiciness the best. The mushiness just carries everything away.

Spicy Game Plan

There you have it, my spicy food game plan:

  1. chia seeds
  2. alcohol
  3. ripe banana

Thanks to having this simple game plan, I have been eating spicier and spicier food.
