Praise for: Foundation (TV series)
I have been watching Apple’s Foundation on AppleTV+ and hooked. I started watching the show after Ted Lasso finished for the season.
If you haven’t seen Foundation, the pitch version would be: the fall of the Roman empire in space.
The story takes place in humanity’s far future and there’s a prediction where civilization will become dark. Avoiding the darkness is impossible, only changing its duration to be shorter or longer by actions in power. The key to making the darkness shorter is storing all of humanity’s knowledge, a foundation.
In a way, there are parallels of what happened to our civilization after the Roman empire fell. We lost knowledge and did not develop for hundreds of years until the middle ages. Ever wonder why we have art from the Greek, Roman, and middle ages but not anything in-between?
Visually, the TV series is stunning. The graphic design used in the show feels like another world, yet still accessible.
I have not read the books at all. I do understand the TV series and books have diverged, where genders of characters are different.
I am approaching the show from a fresh perspective and consider the TV series to build from the books, not be 100% based on the books.
If you are looking for science fiction that makes you think on long time-lines, I would recommend Foundation.
