New Manager - Raise and Promotion Request: Other Team Members
This is a continuation of a series - the first article is here
After saying “no” (which is a whole other series of articles) - comes the next stage to tell the team member:
In order for me to help you get what you want, you need to build significant results.
What does significant results mean? It depends.
The most important reason for significant results is that you will be using this information to convince:
- Other team members of the request
- Your boss to granting the request
- Your boss’ boss to grant the request
Other team members
When word gets out that you will grant one team member their request, what will happen?
Other team members will do the same thing.
If there was no bar or hurdle for the team member to overcome to get you to grant the request - except ask, everyone would ask!
If you can grant everyone their request if they ask, then fantastic.
At some point, you will run out of resources that you can grant.
Then you will have to act as a lawyer for your team member when approaching your boss.
