Thought: Ride Share vs Taxi

On a recent trip, I took a ride share to the airport. The ride share from my house is convenient and I can schedule it.

When I arrived at the airport of my destination, instead of taking another ride share, I took a taxi instead.

Why?

Three things at the airport:

  1. Everyone arriving the airport needs a ride.
  2. The taxi service is there and accessible.
  3. There was no line for a taxi.

When I got into the taxi, I realized: the taxi driver won’t “rate me” as a passenger - which most ride sharing systems do: good driver, good passenger.

There was an immediate weight lifted off my shoulders realizing this. The transaction between me and the taxi ride was just that. No judgement by either party - other than I get to where I wanted and I pay the fare, everyone is happy and we finish the relationship.

With a ride share, there’s continuous judgement during the ride, both for the passenger and the driver.

Next time I have a choice between a ride share or a taxi, I will think twice and consider this aspect.
