Movies My Kids Don't Like: Trolls
I realize with any movie/TV show I introduce to my children, there’s a high probability that they will watch it over and over again until I am sick of it.
Some of these work out, like The LEGO Movie.
Some of these blow up in my face.
One example: Trolls.
Why I chose Trolls
The main reason I chose Trolls as a movie for my kids: the music!
Ironically, when we were at a LEGOLand Discovery Center, they were promoting Trolls: World Tour movie by playing music from the first Trolls movie.
I learned from The LEGO Movie - there’s a high chance I will list to the movie soundtrack a lot. Why not chose a movie with a variety of music?
As the movie is for children - I thought: let’s go with Trolls. I’ll enjoy listening to the soundtrack because there’s a whole bunch of hits on it.
Reality
When I watched Trolls with my oldest son when he was three years old - a single scene that scared him so much, he swore off anything Trolls.
🤦
No matter what I tried, skipping that particular scene, watching the new movie (Trolls: World Tour), guaranteeing him nothing scary, playing the soundtrack, etc.
That single scene in Trolls scarred him, bad.
If I even bring up the word Trolls, he shuts down.
Current Situation
Sigh - welp, there goes a whole series of movies and music my sons won’t have access to unless something changes. They get older? A friend that loves Trolls and introduces Trolls to my son?
Lesson
As much as I want to control everything that goes in my children, they have a strong will of their own and I have to respect that.
The best I can do is filter down what they can choose and let them choose what they love.
For now, it’s more Everything’s Awesome sing alongs.
