Poor Performance Ranking and Your Boss' Boss

I wrote previously - getting a below average performance review is rough because of the competition you have with your peers.

There’s another aspect: your boss’ boss.

When the boss’ boss sees a below average performance of a report’s team member, a skip, welp, they will ask of questions about you to your boss.

Those questions for your boss are always uncomfortable.

Now that you have your boss’ boss attention in a negative light, having your performance “suddenly turn around” is not something your boss can wave a magic wand and say they just fixed the problem - they will have to continuously prove to them your improvement.

Measurable action, over and above effort.

The harder thing is that the boss’ boss has been in this situation before (where you or your boss may not) so your improvement has to play out in a way that fits in their world.

Does this start to look like a downward circle for you?

Hence, staying aligned with your boss is one of the most important things you do for your career.
