Red Green Repeat Adventures of a Spec Driven Junkie

Traveling and Your Internet Connection

Ever wonder what life is like without the Internet?

An easy way to experience that is to travel to a country where your phone carrier does not exist.

Why?

Because you will not have an Internet plan for your phone - and that’s when you will live like it’s 1999!

Until you get a data connection for your phone.

Living without the Internet is impossible, especially if everyone else around you has it.

The problem is, every phone carrier’s optimizes their plans for people that live there, visitors are such a small segment of their market that it’s not even worth their effort to create phone services for visitors.

Until I found out about traveler phone services like: Ubigi.

(This is not an advertisement for Ubigi at all! I used their service independently and I am sharing my experience.)

Before you check out Ubigi - you need to know:

  • they do not provide a local phone number
  • your phone must support eSIM

For a short trip, this was enough for me - and the best part: I setup the service even before I started the trip. I validated everything worked at home.

When I arrived, I just turned on the eSIM on my phone and I am online.

I felt like a local!

If you are traveling, need data connection for your phone and have an eSIM phone - I recommend you check out a service like Ubigi. The experience I had was so smooth.

Life without Internet just got a whole lot harder to imagine…
