Shedding Identity by Writing Different Topics
Earlier this year, I shifted my career focus: from being a tech manager to a business owner.
This is a big change for me - going from working for a company to establishing my own.
One thing I am doing is writing different topics on here. By writing different things, I think different - by thinking different, I become a new person.
My idea list is long, now over 600 items long, and just filled with things from my previous life. I’ll probably write about those eventually, maybe even in a neutral tone since I’m “not in the weeds” anymore. I write and share those topics as they may help someone.
As I think about what to write - I’m in the middle of the change to the new person and old habits are hard to break, especially when I choose to post daily. Topics that fascinated old me will pop up and who knows, maybe future me will need them someday as I grow from my new identity.
At the same time, that change is only one part of my identity - there’s other parts of me that exist - parenting, thinker, human, traveler, etc. Those will constantly shift and evolve too while I’m changing my career focus.
This isn’t the first time I’ve had this shift - going from being an individual contributor to manager was radical and I definitely wrote different things.
Now that I feel things out more - I might need to find new communities.
