Letting Go to Make New Memories
Whenever I visited Japan, I always revisit my favorite places or restaurants, meet old friends that are still there, while my kids spent time with their grandparents-in-law.
Doing that was always nice - I had a full life when I lived there for more than five years. I missed things about Japan and wanted to visit those aspects.
On my last trip, I instead of trying to do anything related to my old life, I let go and enjoyed being in Japan with my family.
(We also didn’t stay with the grandparents-in-law 😅)
I discovered that revisiting old places I loved in Japan when I lived there, I was bringing up old memories, keeping those alive.
By keeping old memories alive, I have less space to make new memories - memories with my family in Japan.
When I lived in Japan, I was a different person - young, just starting my career, didn’t know anyone, etc. The world was different too - even Japan was different.
Instead of keeping that alive - let go and create new memories, for me, my partner, my family, for Japan, for the world!
