Always Report Problems on Production
Getting production access is a sign the organization trusts you - because you can do things to the application that are customer facing.
Production access goes both ways: the organization trusts you to make changes to production AND you can make errors customers see super fast!
Another problem with errors on production: there’s a chance the error is irreversible.
Fixing production errors get interesting fast, like blazingly fast.
Under those circumstances, you learn to get creative, spectacularly creative.
Nothing inspires like pressure!
No matter the case, when you have an unexpected situation in production, whether you solve it or not, always report the problem.
Why?
You know there was a problem on production, no matter what happens, everyone else will.
What you don’t want happening: others asking how you relate to the other “production problems”.
Hence, reporting the problem to your boss or someone else will be good. It shows you are trustworthy - you know when to report problems, especially on production - where everyone can see.
Reporting whenever you find a problem also keeps problems small. Covering up the problem only snowballs the problem for you or even the next person.
Be a great guy - report problems on production when you encounter them.
It’s the right way to behave.
