Red Green Repeat Adventures of a Spec Driven Junkie

Why Return to Office Execution Sucks

As companies are trying to put “remote work” back into the pandora’s box that COVID-19 forced opened - almost all methods of companies trying to get people back into the office is, well, demoralizing.

Boss Ordering Employees to Return to Office

The fact that for people that can work remotely - there’s almost zero benefits of being in the office, especially after financially or emotionally invested in remote work.

That’s where the execution companies use to get people back into the office are demoralizing.

On the other side, executives are not sharing why they want employees back in the office. As data driven companies expose to be, no data shown, other than the colloquial or anecdotal reasons.

This makes me think there is a bigger agenda for getting everyone back

  • a big reason, maybe a reason that we are not privy to, one that won’t make sense - unless we’re an executive.

Whatever the reason - it’s not shared with everyone involved.

Hence, this opaqueness in getting people back into the office is demoralizing.

This is treating adults like children - or worse, getting the line:

Do as I say, not as I do.

The ultimate insult from an authority.
