Favorite Age to Parent

I love meeting other parents, especially new ones as I can give actual advice that is more recent.

One question that really blew me away:

What age is your favorite to parent?

Some context: I have two boys now - six and three. Both are great in their own ways - similar in some, different in others.

When I got the question at the time - I kind of fumbled the answer, kind of like what one would do in an interview. Say something logically right and not what I feel is right.

Ever since then, I have been thinking of this question. I even asked my wife, because she’s a full time mom and spent more time with both kids than me.

In a way, I love all of their ages so far - and the best about having two kids close in age, you get to experience the ages with a slight delay between them.

So far, my favorite age is the two to three year old phase. My wife shared this observation:

The cuteness of two to three years old is the best. After they become three, their cuteness diminishes as they become more adult.

That’s a great observation and when I look back on photos - I definitely agree.

Another aspect I like about this age:

They are just discovering how to express themselves through speech between two to three years old. Everything they say is pure emotions - unfiltered and positive.

(They do figure out negative emotions quickly!)

Interacting with them at this age is just so fun and you forget anything bad in your day (including any struggle you had with them!)

It’s a wonderful gift two to three years old and that’s my answer, so far!

Cherish those years as the kids will grow fast!
