Sleep - Coffee Change
One of the lifestyle changes I made to improve sleep is to reduce my coffee intake.
I drank so much coffee before that it stained my teeth badly and enjoyed the taste of it.
I spent so much time learning and understanding coffee - I would explain coffee to coffee sales people.
That’s how much I loved coffee.
As I start to focus on sleep - I need to reduce things that would affect my sleep, falling asleep, quality of sleep, etc.
Coffee negatively affects sleep.
Ugh - this tears me up, because I went all in on the coffee lifestyle. I love the taste of coffee!
At the same time, I want to sleep better - can I have both??
Well, I do - I dramatically cut back on my coffee consumption - well, caffeine in general as that’s the thing that affects sleep.
I went with just having a single cup of coffee, in this cup.
Just kidding - I went simpler: one double espresso with heavy cream every day, finish before 09:00.
I went with that as it’s easy to make, tastes great hot or cold (with my favorite espresso blend.)
With only one cup of coffee early in the day, I found falling asleep easier. I enjoy the taste of the coffee more - or I am pickier about the coffee because I only have one cup.
Why not Decaffeinated Coffee??
I went that route before too - decaffeinated coffee is great as well. Problem is, I really like the taste of the espresso blend and I haven’t found a decaffeinated version that tastes as good.
Also, decaffeinated coffee removes 99.9% of caffeine - I found that even 0.1% caffeine in the late afternoon affects me getting to sleep.
The Taste
I found I do drink coffee for the taste, a very specific taste I honed in on now after years of experimentation with different beans, brewing processes, and times.
By having only one cup of my favorite coffee per day, life is really good for my coffee intake and sleep.
