Write for You - Not Blog Analytics
I encourage everyone to blog. The most important part is that when you write, you’re thinking
With blogs, you get analytics - what’s the read count, how other discover your content.
This is a blessing AND a curse.
- It’s a blessing because there’s validation of demand for your posts.
- It’s a curse because there’s validation of demand for your posts.
This can lead your writing in different directions.
Who to Write For??
Keep writing for the demand? OR Keep writing the way you were writing before?
The answer to the above: it depends.
The main dependency is why you are writing?? Are you writing on a specific topic to get views? Or are you writing to think?
For me - I am writing to think and I love that there are views for certain posts of mine.
At the same time - what I am getting views for is not what I am focusing as a topic.
I may have written those high view posts because those were just top of mind, I had a deadline, and just happen to find an audience for that topic.
Write For Yourself
Since I am writing for myself, I am not shifting my writing to that topic - that would take the joy out of writing for myself.
Now I have to research the topic even more, see what others have written, ensure I am original in my topics, write to feed the demand, and analyze the counts.
That sounds like a job!
A job I accidentally found because I wrote posts on a topic.
Conclusion
If you are a writer and want to find an audience, blog analytics are a way to validate and a great stepping stone to a job.
If you are writing to help you think - I would avoid blog analytics and write for yourself. The most important reader is you. If you don’t read your own thinking - who will?!
Keep on writing & blogging!
