Consistency Kills Sleep - Getting Up Early
I am focusing on improving my sleep, unrolling decades of bad habits and beliefs for my sleep. Previous article
The hardest thing to unroll are all the habits I have around sleep. Such as meditating, getting up early, getting up at the same time, working out after waking up, reading before bed, not reading before bed, etc.
I did those activities for so long, it’s second nature to me.
I am stopping those activities because, I really don’t know if they help me sleep more. I developed beliefs and habits when I wanted more productivity at the expense of sleep, now I’m losing productivity from a lack of sleep.
So, I’m unrolling everything.
In a way, my consistency is killing my sleep.
One thing I stopped doing: waking up early at the same time.
The original thought was by getting up early and at the same time, even on the weekends, I would naturally get tired around the same time and fall asleep then.
I did like getting up early, because I can get more done.
As I got more done, I stay up to get even more done.
🤦
In a way, this habit hasn’t worked out to improve sleep for me as planned.
Problem is not that day when I didn’t have enough sleep, I could struggle through it, the problem would arise from catching a cold by not getting enough sleep, which kills a lot more than producitivty. Letting myself sleep in when I couldn’t sleep well (for whatever reason) keeps me from catching a cold.
I associated with lack of sleep to degraded health to catching a cold.
No matter what, catching a cold would make me sleep even more!
I couldn’t handle being sick - that kills productivity even more.
By letting myself sleep in, or in my case, forcing myself to sleep in, I would get enough sleep for the night and have a better chance of staying healthy to avoid being sick.
Getting up early hasn’t helped my productivity OR sleep!
