Mostly Acceptable; Yet Advanced
I shared my thoughts on having competitors to create a new product category in this article.
When a product category is too revolutionary - it’s hard for the public to comprehend it. Technically correct, practically useless.
Another approach is to have a product that is Mostly Acceptable; Yet Advanced - MAYA.
In this case, the public can comprehend the product as it’s Mostly Acceptable. When there’s another level of sophistication to it - maybe one or two adjustments, the public will sense the product as Yet Advanced over the current.
This is a great approach in developing a new product. How can a “new product” gain acceptance quickly?
Make the new product similar to an existing product AND advanced in a significant way.
Some examples of this:
- Walkamn: music player; portable
- Laptop: computer; portable
- Energy drinks: soda drink; energy
- iPhone: phone and MP3 player; Internet
There’s more out there and there’s still more to come!
Mostly Acceptable; Yet Advanced.
So simple that I feel stupid for not figuring out earlier.
