Blogging Daily - Take Two
When I started blogging daily again - I took a different approach compared to before.
Writing before - I focused on writing on the top of my mind for the day. Sometimes, I would not have anything and just wrote the first thing that came to mind. Othertimes, I would have a great idea and “milk” the idea over multiple posts, limiting each post to 100 words or so.
In this situation - my mindset is a scarcity mindset. Not having enough ideas to write scared me every time I start an entry.
This time, I took a different approach:
- I would write down ideas as they come to me during the day - without judging the quality of the idea.
- When starting a post, I would write from the idea list - anything over three days old.
Having the requirement that I write an idea older than three days helped in two ways.
- I separate the emotional excitement of the idea with the content of the idea.
- I build a buffer of ideas instead of digging deeper and deeper on the same idea.
There were ideas not as brilliant as I thought they would be - or they were way better in my head than on the post.
Other ideas were just as good as when I wrote them down and the post wrote itself. I just kept going and going when writing to have a fully formed post instead of “meeting word counts”.
Here’s to more daily posts!
