Dependency on Google

This is a continuation of a thread from this post on Email address security and this post on Email address and Government accounts

I like Google and services they provide, like: Gmail.

Of all the private companies providing email, I consistently use Gmail.

On reflecting back on my email account - using Gmail for everything would be the best choice.

Until Google sold off it’s Google Domains business.

When Google suddenly sells off key services like Google Domains, I get worried.

If Google sold off their domains business, when will they sell off Gmail??

Remember, Gmail is a “free service” - so there is no obligation for them to continue to provide the service when they decide not to provide Gmail.

Unlike Google Domains, that is a service one pays for, Google still sold it!

This post on Google Domains from DHH really hits this topic on the head, especially this part:

This company is one major reorganization or recently promoted executive away from murdering any of these [Google services].

If this can happen at Google - what about any other company??

This makes you really think about your Email account, doesn’t it?!
