Tim Ferris' Fear Setting
My coaches introduced Tim Ferris’ Fear Setting and after going through the exercise, I have to say - Fear Setting is an Important Tool for me now.
One thing that Fear Setting does better than other goal setting tools / frameworks I used is understanding the Cost of Inaction.
I set goals and sometimes, I just don’t move forward on those goals, no matter how much I think I want it or set myself to accomplish them.
In a way, I’m paralyzed. I do “busy work” towards the goal, yet at the end of the day, I make no meaningful progress.
Asking myself - “What would not doing anything cost me?” shifts my mind from doing busy work to doing real work against all of my goals.
This shift is profound, as I’m doing work on all of my goals - not just one or two goals.
Getting this fear onto a page in front of me so my mind can see what would happen if I don’t do anything sparks something in me other goal setting has not.
When you haven’t made meaningful progress on your goals - flip the situation around and try Fear Setting.
Fear Setting helps me take meaningful action to my goals.
