Remote Life - Early Morning Work

Working remotely when you are in a later time zone than the rest of the team is interesting in a different ways. Some are up to personal preference, others are discipline.

In the following scenarios, consider the work time zone to be 3 hours ahead of your local time zone. Equivalent times for the following.

work time zone your time zone
start work 09:00 06:00
meal break 12:00 09:00
finish work 17:00 14:00

Starting Work

Depending on how early you normally get up (and/or how much of a morning person you are), getting up earlier for work can be a blessing or a curse.

When work has early meetings, you will need to get up even earlier - depending on how much time you need to go from “waking up” to “conscious for meeting”.

Waking up early and starting work early at home also means you have more quiet time for work while everyone in your home is still asleep (if you have other family members.)

Meal Times

Depending on the time difference, your work meal time can sync with your actual meal time. When the time zone difference is three hours, work lunch time is your breakfast time.

Finishing Day

When it’s the “end of the day”, you will finish your work day earlier in your time zone. This gives you some extra daylight to spend after work.

Also, if you ever need to “stay late at work”, it is not really being late in your time zone.

Getting Ready for Work

To be at your best for work, you will need to sleep earlier in your time zone. Going to bed late and getting up early is ROUGH, especially multiple days in a row.

Overall

Working with a remote team that is in an earlier time zone than you provides a different lifestyle than if you were working in the same time zone. Lifestyle changes presented are regardless of situations such as single or with kids.

Here are strategies and tactics I use that can help you with working early.
