Invest in Your Knowledge
If it is not in a company’s best interest to invest in their knowledge workers, what can a knowledge worker do to keep up??
Every investment a knowledge worker puts into themselves (time, learning, practicing, etc.) pays greater dividends than anything else.
Ways you can invest in yourself:
- learn your craft at a deeper level
- broaden your skillset by learning any adjacent technologies
- read classic books of your industry
- learn the business aspects of your company
- learn the craft of any team member you interact with (i.e. product, design, QA)
- write about your learning to solidify understanding
- get a coach to help you
Knowledge is additive - every additional piece of knowledge will increase your value.
At the same time, if you are a knowledge worker and your current company offers any training at all - make the extra effort of delivering on work commitments and take those training - it’s a win-win for you!
Take an active approach to your career as a knowledge worker.
