Killing My Sleep: Waking Up Early
As I set a sleep goal for 2023, I also have to stop doing things that kill my sleep.
One of them is consistently waking up early - weekdays and weekends.
For the longest time, I focused on improving my sleep by consistently waking up at the same time, the thinking:
By waking up early, you will naturally sleep early.
That does sound reasonable and it may work.
One thing that waking up consistently early did to my sleep:
Reduce my memory of what great sleep feels like.
Why?
I kept waking up early with insufficent sleep, doing things through the day, staying up late because my brain is in a haze, staying up late doing more things, and repeat.
I ran on insufficient sleep for so long that I did not even know what “good sleep” felt like. I just consistently kept that waking up early cycle!
As part of my 2023 sleep goals, I will stop waking up early - even if I goto bed late, my thinking:
By feeling what is great sleep again, I will want to sleep more, no matter how, because I love that “great sleep feeling” more.
Here’s to loving that great sleep feeling!
