Leadership is Language: Parenting Questions
These are notes from L. David Marquet’s book: Leadership is Language. The first set of notes start at understanding Red & Blue.
Understanding the language of collaboration vs coercion is enlightening. From a work perspective I see the impact of language on the team. When I carry these lessons and apply them to my parenting style, I had an epiphany.
I have a young son and he can finally start to communicate in full sentences.
After reading the chapter on collaboration and coercion, I notice I ask my son questions like:
- Are you ready for school?
- Did you wash your hands?
- Was school fun?
- Did you see person at school?
- Did you play at school?
- Did the teacher give you homework?
- Are you ready for bed?
I start seeing a pattern in these questions. What pattern do you see?
