Toastmasters Adventures: Negotiating with Owner
This is a series on my adventures in a Toastmasters Club.
As the challenges became known, I had to come up with solutions to the club home problem.
- Negotiate with the current owner for a different date or change the arrangement (i.e. promise minimum order per meeting).
- Find a new club home.
Negotiating with the current owner is an obvious choice:
Pros:
- current club members know the location
- meeting facilities are outstanding
- long relationship
Cons:
- no clear understanding of relationship / expectations
I remember trying to work with the owner on negotiating / understanding their needs (especially from us.) Changing the meeting days, guaranteeing minimum order, etc.
At the end, the thing they said to me was: the new group will order more than we ever will and every other night is busier, except Sunday, which won’t work for the club.
I have to evaluate the trade offs to finding a new club home.
