Thoughts: Red Work Blue Work - Driving and Navigating

With the introduction of the “red work” and “blue work” concepts from Leadership is Language, which I started in this post

When applying the red work / blue work concepts to a car, there’s two main things that need to happen:

• operating the vehicle - I consider this red work as there are limits to what the operator can do.
• navigating to the destination - I consider this blue work as unlimited possibilities to get to the destination under varying conditions.

Consider that most modern phones now offer real-time navigation to a destination accounting for almost any traffic condition - this eliminates the blue work of navigation!

What’s left? So far, just the red work of operating a car soon eliminated by new developments.

I find it amazing that technology eliminated the blue work of navigation first before eliminating red work of operating a vehicle.
