Red Green Repeat Adventures of a Spec Driven Junkie

Thought: Turn The Ship Around - Questioning

I am reading Turn The Ship Around - the start of this series is here.

As a leader, I never considered the difference in what I am asking in my “questions”. After reflecting in my life after reading chapter 4, asking questions resonates with me in a different manner.

A specific example is with my kids. I ask them questions when learning new concepts. To solidify their understanding of these concepts I ask the same questions, repeatedly.

Thing is, they would get sick of me asking the same questions over and over, they would get tired of trying to answer them. The frustration builds up and they just shut down. What I considered a learning opportunity just blew up in my face.

🤦

I realize I know the answers to the questions I ask my kids and they know this fact. There’s no “fun” in answering because I am only testing them.

In this situation, I have a closed mind with the answers to my questions to my kids.

Wouldn’t that be frustrating as an adult?
