New Manager - Raise and Promotion Request: Adapt Process

This is a continuation of a series - the first article is here

No matter what happens, when a team member asks for anything greater than your purview, explaining the following process:

  1. Say “no, not right now”
  2. Build Significant Results
  3. Relationships
  4. Explain this Process

Will do two things:

  1. Align your team members’ goals with your goals (through significant results).
  2. Have team member also develop relationships with each other, so they will not hold each other in contempt when they obtain their desire.

What about if there’s another process already established by your boss?

Adapt.

Even if there is a known process and you explain this one, adapt these two together.

The worst case, there is no official process. This process is better than just every team member turning the company into a charity or fighting each other.

As a manager, who would not want the above two results from their team members, no matter what the “official process” is??
