Team Writing Own Sprint Stories: Reframing Work

I started an initiative in 2021 was to have the team start writing their own sprint stories - the series starts here

When stakeholders pushed back - I had to make sure the team delivered results. The moment they did not, stakeholders would scrutinize my approach and reverse course.

The first sprints with this approach did get close to the team not delivering results. 😱

I jumped in and got things going. They definitely did work to move the sprint forward.

I had to reframe objectives so the work done did fulfill objectives. I introduced the 80/20 rule so that they don’t get myoptic on delivering 100%. Focusing on hitting that first 80%, deliver, then move onto the next 20%.

Next I start tackling stakeholder’s appetite and engineering’s will to deliver
