Red Green Repeat Adventures of a Spec Driven Junkie

Agile and Planning, Grooming, Stand up, and Retro??

Previously, I wrote about Agile is a mindset. Today I will talk about scrum.

I didn’t work in an “agile” environment until my current job and I started the job as a contributor. I accepted “whatever we were doing as agile”.

When I became the leader of the team, I continued these ‘agile’ behaviors because I had other things to focus on, such as being a good manager

Only when I had team member do a book report for us on Scrum, it started me questioning our agile process.

While we were doing events, such as: stand up, grooming, planning, and retro. They seemed off. Everyone was calling them “agile”.

Are they?

The agile manifesto doesn’t ever mention these events. So, what’s relation between agile and stand up, grooming, planning, and retro meetings?

Well, I learned those “events” - stand up, grooming, planning, and retro are not things you do in agile, they are part of scrum, which is a framework in agile.

Agile is the mindset. Scrum is a framework that fits in the agile mindset.

Planning, grooming, stand up, and retro are events in the scrum framework.
