Sleep Meditation
In my current sleep habit, I describe two things that I use to go to sleep now:
- “Sleep Meditation”
- Record Sleeping Time
This post will focus on “Sleep Meditation”.
Introduction
One area I struggled with in going to sleep is “getting to sleep”. Just being able to just put my head on my pillow and then the next time I am conscious, the time is the appropriate wake up time.
Is that too much to ask for?
Sometimes, I get what I desire. Other times, I’m just lying awake. Even after going through my 16 step routine.
Only after doing the sleep meditation on Headspace that I realize meditation can help one sleep as well.
My Sleep Meditation
This is my approach to getting to sleep:
- Lay in bed, ready to sleep.
- Start 5 minute meditation focused on breathing - I use my Apple Watch mindfulness app.
- Let my mind wander through the session.
- If the meditation session is complete and I am still awake - imagine my whole day again in sequence. From waking up, to the next thing after waking up, and so on. Keep pushing to remember things that happened to your day - the more energy you have, the harder you push!
I have found this sequence is perfect, whether I am too tired or too energized. I have a routine, yet, it has a balance of consistency, uniqueness, and challenge.
